A Good Decision Indeed

barack_obamaThe Obama administration Wednesday did something no one expected when they decided to not release photos of interrogations. This decision has the ACLU up in arms. It was President Obama’s ill decision to support the release of these photos not long ago that had the ACLU chomping at the bit. In a moment of enlightenment or whatever it was, we have finally seen reason from this administration.

The President defended his decision saying:

“My belief is the publication of these photos would not add any additional benefits to our understanding of what was carried out in the past by a small number of individuals,” he said in a brief appearance. “The most direct consequence would be to further inflame anti-American opinion and put our troops in greater danger.”

ACLU attorney Amrit Singh, who had argued and won the case before the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York also commented on the decision by the White house saying:

“The decision to not release the photographs makes a mockery of President Obama’s promise of transparency and accountability.”

Transparency is a good thing Mr. Singh, but lets not forget reason and consequences. Somethings are better left untouched. I pray we can leave such photos in the past.
