The “Good” Life

seattle-sunset-thumbnailMany of us these days are in search of the “good” life. Unless we define what the good life is, we might as well chase a ghost.  What is this good life and how do we know we have found it? I would like to propose a question. If you were to have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control in your life would you consider it “good”? I know I would. Ironically, somereligions such as buddhism claim that these things can be achieved through human effort. Only Christianity claims that these things are imparted to you by the Holy Spirit. This are the traits of the Holy Spirit. When a person becomes a Christian they are allow the Holy Spirit to reside within them. I am not claiming that Christians are perfect, but I am saying that they don’t have to “earn” these attributes. The fruit of the Spirit grows in a believers life as they become more like Christ.

I thought I had some of these attributes in my life before knowing Christ, but I was wrong. I had false senses of all of those things. It wasn’t until I came to know Christ did I come to realize what the truth was. It was like waking up. No one they were sleeping until they wake up. I didn’t know the lie I was living until Christ woke me up.

The Good life is waiting for those who want it. Christ went to the cross not to give you a perfect life, but a life based on truth. You will know what it’s like to have real love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control in your life. I can tell you with great confidence that unless you know Christ this things are missing from your life. Serving the Lord only increases these things in your life. There was a time in my life I would have ridiculed someone for saying the very things I am saying. I can only say that if you want to know for sure, seek the truth. These thing came to us at a heafty price and are was freely given to us.
